The Lake District is located in the North West
of England in the county of Cumbria. At 2,292
square kilometres the Lake District National Park
is one of the largest of 12 National Parks located
in the UK. It is also home to England’s highest mountain,
Scafell Pike(3,210 feet) and largest inland open expanse
of water, Lake Windermere.
It also boasts the largest concentration of “common land” in the whole of Western Europe. The distinct character of the Lake District comes from its rich history, the fields are lined with ancient dry stone walls and hedgerows, and with the backdrop of spectacular mountains and lakes makes for picture perfect views and stunning days out.
